You know once you're in Israel you'll add a bazillion more things you want to read about when you get home, anyway.

Oh, totally! Plus, I need not to act as though this is necessarily the one and only time I'll get to go to Israel. When I went to South Africa, I did this same kind of studying beforehand (although less so, because studying for Israel has a religious component as well for me) and certainly assumed that this was the one and only time I'd ever go to South Africa. And then three years later, I got a chance to go again! And I read a bunch of new stuff that second time around and had much more context for it. Sure, I don't anticipate any return to Israel, but one never knows.

Oy! An inner Calvinist AND a Jew? My sympathies. :)
