Sounds like a good decision for you! Do what makes you happy, and if playing the recorder doesn't make you happy, you don't need to feel guilty about that.

If you feel like a trip partly west during your sabbatical, the BardiacShack would be an excellent choice! Just saying. :)

It's so interesting that these small decisions about our lives can carry so much weight! What I'm wondering is what this is a decision for more of. More silence? More freedom from obligation? Or will there be some other outlet for your fingers, your mind, your sense of rhythm or melody?

I know exactly how you feel! I've been taking piano lessons for as long as I can remember (and for the last 10 years from one of the piano professors here). When the semester gets busy and I show up at lessons not having practiced once the entire week, I start questioning why I'm doing this to myself. Yet every Jan 1 (and this one is no exception) my resolution is to practice more. I guess it's the dream that just won't die!
