Well, just one alumna, actually.
A former student of mine from St. Martyr's (so she's probably in her early 30s now) quit her job last year to pursue a life as a burlesque dancer. Apparently she'd been doing it as a sideline before that, but it was only when she went full-time that her former professors learned of it.
And the way she informed us was to have her burlesque alter-ego (which is apparently how the biz works) friend us on FB. I don't think she friended everyone, just those she thought could handle this other side of her.
And when I say "other side of her," I mean it's an odd experience to see one's former student essentially naked in lots and lots of photos! Apparently she's very good at what she does, winning a prize at some regional burlesque competition a couple of months ago. And she lives in a city that seems to have quite the burlesque scene.
It's been fun to get a peek at a world completely unknown to me, and I'm proud of her that she's thrown caution and stability to the wind to pursue something she really loves. I prefer the unabashed and joyful sexuality of her new career to the sexuality I see in advertising and in the photos of my own recent FGS alums wearing teeny-weensy mini skirts at sorority events.
