The tooth woes occasioned by the loss of my temporary crown on Saturday continue, and by Monday afternoon I was sick to death of drinking body temperature liquids (warmer than room temperature, cooler than hot).
So I poured myself a glass of cold water and set about experimenting. It turns out that I can avoid pain if I take little sips and tilt my head to the right as I drink; the trick is to get the liquid to the back of my throat while bypassing the upper left molar that is currently crown-less. The process looks a little funny, as though I've developed a tic, but by gum, it works.
Once I had the process worked out, I promptly opened a cold Diet Coke, my first in 48 hours. It tasted absolutely amazing.
In the intervening 28 or so hours, I have used my new technique to drink water, milk, and a glass of wine. But it's the Diet Coke that has made all of the sideways head-bobbing worthwhile.
The new, permanent crown goes on Thursday afternoon.

Hey, I would do the exact same thing.

I would so be doing the same thing for a cup of coffee. A straw doesn't help? I guess it would be hard to get it far enough away from the bad tooth.
Hope Thursday gets here soon for you.

ooo - I'm glad! It would have been tough to drink like that for the long haul! :)

I would do the same thing too. Desperate times call for desperate measures, and who's to say what "desperate times" means?
