Life has actually been better for about a week now, but I got weirdly superstitious and didn't want to post that life was better now that February was almost over; even last night, I thought, "No, I'd better wait until it's officially March 1 before I celebrate February's demise; otherwise, who knows what might happen between now and midnight?" Fortunately, I can now definitively claim that we made it through the worst month and are looking forward to brighter days.
Apparently I should try taking Vitamin D next winter for a less gloomy February; a couple of colleagues swear by it.
The nice thing is that the end of winter term's work coincided exactly with the end of February. So the last few days were tons of work -- finishing grading, writing end-of-term comments for all 58 of my students -- but then I got to wake up on March 1 feeling free as a bird!
And by "free as a bird," I mean that all of my students are submitting drafts between yesterday and Monday, which need to be responded to carefully and quickly.
But who cares? It's March! And in two weeks, we get a two-week spring break! So life is much better.
(Edited to add: In catching up on my blog-reading, I'm laughing at how many other folks have written almost identical posts. It does feel better to know that one is not alone in hating February!)

I have heard great things about light boxes and other lighting devices. Spending this winter in a sunny place, so no need for it, but next fall when I'm back in my dark corner, I'm definitely going to invest in a light box.

There is a Dar Williams song "February" that seems to match your opinions. Have you heard it?

I am seriously superstitious about February. This week has been a bit better but I didn't breathe a true sigh of relief until I was writing March 1st on a form.

A light box and Vitamin D get me from miserable to just grumpy as %$#@!
Seriously, it is an improvement, though I'd love to get to happy.
